This is a tough one. Melissa here, again. Not all patients are good candidates for the services we offer here at Dallas Men’s Health. I personally directed your inquiry from start to finish - this time last year. We referred your case and care to UTSW; who specializes in your self-reported rare condition. I am certain we do not provide - and bill for services - the medical staff does not believe will benefit the patient. Your feelings and experiences are real, and we hope that our esteemed colleagues -or another specialist - can assist you. I will add, I do not feel “slandered” by the medical director. I am a proud member of this team, and assure you we work collaboratively. He has always been patient and a good educator - even when I bother him with elementary medical questions, so that I might be a better steward to the folks asking questions about DMH. Lastly, we responded to every message, call, and email you submitted regarding our services at an above average response rate and degree of detail. You received no charges from the time you inquired about our office to the point of referral, and though not a patient of ours, we wish you well.

Word from the husband: I recently visited Dr. Weirscham’s office regarding a refill for my previous pellet procedure, but during the visit, I chose to switch to testosterone injections instead. Unfortunately, the office staff did not respond well to this decision. I was not clearly informed of the costs associated with my choice, nor was I given prompt or transparent explanations before services were rendered. At checkout, I was surprised to be charged: $300 for a consultation, $150 for injection training—even after I made it clear that I had already been trained and was confident in administering it myself, $50 to review lab results from a previous physician. This experience gave me the impression that the office prioritizes financial gain over patient care. I expressed my decision not to return, yet they continued to schedule future appointments without my consent. Additionally, I was never informed in advance that no insurance is accepted, which is crucial information for patients making healthcare decisions. I do not plan on returning and would caution others to ask detailed questions about billing and insurance policies before committing to services.
Howdy! Thank you for your review; we’re sorry to hear your recent experience didn’t meet expectations. I would like to take a moment to address your husband’s concerns. This is Melissa, I completed the Medical Billing consultation with you guys at the end of your most recent visit; most folks see me running around the office. I understand your husband presented to the clinic for another pellet procedure (a $860 service); and during the office visit he decided to change his method of delivery (self administered injectables); which has a different price structure. He went through a consultation with the MD, IM training, and the doctor reviewed his labs with him - which he reads and prepares for prior to your arrival. When the doctor let us know you were ready to check out, you guys raised concerns after being presented the invoice by our support staff. You state, “I was not clearly informed of the costs associated with my choice, nor was I given prompt or transparent explanations before services were rendered.” I received a similar understanding when I was called into your suite on this escalated matter. I was surprised to hear pricing was not discussed prior to us rendering services, as it is protocol; I will absolutely review the protocols and re-train all the staff - just to be sure. I encourage every patient - ours or otherwise - to ask about billing/collections prior to receiving services; especially if you’re on a budget. The total cost of the choice to change the delivery method resulted in a one time $500 invoice (not the $860 I assumed you were prepared to pay). I understand we are stewards of patient care and we are dedicated to serving our community; we will do better. I did offer a $50 reduction in cost to offset the financial burden, which was refused. Also, though we don’t claim we accept insurances on our website, I will make sure it is explicitly stated. We are not contracted with health insurance companies. Our services are not free of charge, and do vary depending on the services rendered. The pricing for this service is correctly listed below; I would like to add clarity for anyone reading: $300…consultation, This is a specific type of consultation, not a general consultation, so there are differences in the type of consultation fees a person might see (this is also standard across healthcare) $150…injection training, (again, we do not want to do this either; it is required by medical boards, regulations, and other folks we answer to; it is for patient safety. Every patient regardless of skill or background will have to do this annually should they want to be in our service) $50… lab results. Lab orders can come from other physicians - we do not want to retest you if you have labs that include the panels we need for our work. This will always be a part of your invoice, should there be a need to read and review labs for a patient. Your claim that I or anyone on this team (leadership included) “prioritizes financial gain over patient care” really hit home. I will admit I failed to cancel the follow-up appointment (which are pre-made); I can honestly say I don’t recall you letting me know you were so upset you did not want to come back. As for the “financial gain”, these services do not bring significant revenue to our business. I have on many occasions advocated for discontinuing this service - as the “money” person on the team. Dr. Wierschem refuses me each time - because we see how poor the patient care can be in some of these “pop-up” clinics. We have been caring for patients across the country for over 30 years (collectively 125 years); and we are here to stay. We appreciate that you have choices when you select your care, and we are committed to doing better. As an olive branch, I have returned the total of your service fee ($500), and we wish you the best in your transition of care.
