Consultation - When I reached out to Neopel, I was offered an in-person consultation. The clinic would respond to my emails and calls within minutes, and spoke English. When I went to my consultation, both Doctors were there. Dr. Ana and Miguel Hernandez. When I met them, Dr. Miguel explained that he performs the harvesting and that Dr. Ana performs the implantation. They started by first asking what my expectations were. I only wanted to focus on my hairline, even though I was thin on my crown. They explained that that is what they suggest as well. They said that maybe in a few years, if I wanted, we could tackle the crown. They explained how the procedure would go and how it would be conducted as well as what to expect in the days and weeks after the surgery. They explained that they alone would do the surgery. I was concerned about the pain and they then described in detail how they would manage the pain and assured me that I would be comfortable during the surgery. After 5 years of considering this move, I decided to go forward with it and schedule the surgery. The Clinic - My overall impression of the clinic is that it was clean and sanitary. That is what I was concerned about, and it checked off that box. The building itself was a little dated and a dental office was in another office adjacent to the hair clinic. Day Of Surgery Extraction - After I was ready, I was escorted over to the surgery room. Dr. Miguel Hernandez was there with three technicians. I lay on my face and he gave me a shot on the back of my neck. He used some sort of vibrating thing on my neck when he stuck me with the needle. I don’t know how it works but I feel like the vibration tricked my brain into not feeling the needle at all. It was completely painless. Dr. Miguel then began to extract my hair follicles using the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method. That took about three to four hours. When I got up, I saw the three technicians using microscopes to separate the grafts. They separated them by one hair, two hair, three hair, and four hair follicles. I also noticed the technicians keeping count of how many they had of each by writing the numbers down. In total Dr. Miguel extracted over 1500 grafts and over 3000 hairs (I forget the exact number of each). Overall, I experienced no pain. Implantation - At this point I went back to the surgery room and Dr. Ana put a little guard on my face, so nothing got in my eyes. She then gave me three or four shots around my hairline. That was the only time I experienced pain and I would give that pain a 2 out of 10. No big deal. She began to implant the follicles. There were three technicians there assisting her. They created a sort of assembly line using implantation pens. I think two would load hair follicles into the pens, and hand the loaded pens to the Dr. as soon as she was ready for them. She would then take the pen, stick it into my head and implant the follicle. She would then hand the empty pen to the third technician, and she would put it I a little dish where the other technicians would pick them up and load them again. She did this over and over until every follicle was implanted. Results - As of now, I am extremely happy with the results. Dr. Ana is truly an artist. I have seen other clinic pictures where the hairs were put in rows like a corn field. Not with Dr. Ana. It looks so natural and dense. I can’t tell where my implanted hair starts, and the old hair begins. In addition. Dr. Miguel did a great job not overharvesting. I the holes on the back of my head have healed and I can’t even see them anymore. I have included pictures so that you can see for yourself. I will try and keep updating new pictures so you can see the progress. ************UPDATE*********** I have added my 8-week post-surgery "Ugly Duckling" photos below. I am surprised that all of the hair did not fall out. Take a look!!! Now begins the wait for it all to grow back over the next few months.

"I had a terrific FUE experience at Neopel 19 days ago. You know how you'll see elsewhere things for other clinics like, "after anesthetic you'll feel the worst pain you ever felt in your life for 5 minutes?" I felt not one thing. No pain during or after. It's 19 days post-op and still no pain. Only mild itching, mostly telling me it's time to wash the hair. Perfectly fine being in the chair/on table for 5 and 3 hours. This is NOT a hair mill, as so many have said here and elsewhere. They do one person per day, the husband Dr. Miguel (harvesting from donor area) in the morning and his wife Dr. Ana (transplanting in recipient area) in the afternoon. Not only are there two doctors, but there are three--three!--nurses at all times. And I so enjoyed everyone. Daniela the receptionist was the perfect contact, answering all questions swiftly. Everyone makes you feel that you are their sole focus. Not fake--just down to earth, authentic, people. Truly wonderful especially after what I've read about some other clinics--especially Turkey, where work was done by assistants, chattering away, sometimes smoking (!). Of course the test is how it will eventually look, but I want to reiterate: 1. totally comfortable throughout surgery 2. no pain during or so far after, 18 days post-op 3. no shedding (yet--I've read it can happen in 1-5 weeks and is of course normal, but it doesn't happen to everyone) 4. occasional itching which goes away as soon as I wash hair (lol, personal hygiene lol) 5. clear instructions and communication about everything. I really liked how the doctors tell you what they are about to do, what to expect. They are not going through the motions. I have already recommended Neopel to people and will continue to do so.

I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Hernandez and the staff. It was such a well polished operation with a very personal touch. It felt like a concierge service from when I first inquired, to my consultation, to planning my trip, to getting picked up by the driver at the airport to the hotel, to the day of my procedure and after. All was done in a first class way and I was very impressed. It is a family run clinic and they made me feel like family. Dr. Hernandez has been doing this practice for 20-years and it was truly fantastic. I don't always give reviews but this is THE PLACE to go if you are a man or woman and are looking for options. There are lots of options for hair restoration in TJ and all over the world. I am so grateful that I went with Dr. Hernandez.
